I'm Charles. I moved to Portugal and tried to buy property as a non-resident. What followed was six months of conflicting advice, outdated PDFs, a spreadsheet that spiralled out of control, and a €1,500 lawyer bill just to understand what IMT actually was.
Casa is what I wish had existed.
The problem
Buying property in Portugal as a foreigner is a 6 month process involving 10+ stakeholder types, 30+ documents, and portals that barely work in English. The information is fragmented, frequently outdated, and often filtered through agents with skin in the game.
Most foreign buyers arrive with one question — “what does this property actually cost?” — and leave having grossly underestimated the answer by 10%.
The solution
Casa is the independent software layer that Portugal's property market has been missing. Anti-agent, anti-conflict-of-interest. Paid only by users. No referral commissions, no dual-agency dynamics.
We don't replace lawyers or agents — we help you walk into their meetings fully informed, with the right questions prepared.
The journey so far
The spreadsheet phase
Started a spreadsheet to track the Portugal purchase process. It grew to 18 tabs. Considered therapy.
First research pass
Spent weeks mapping the full buyer journey: every phase, every stakeholder, every form. Realised no software product owned it end-to-end.
Building for myself
Built the first version as a personal purchase tracker. Started sharing with other buyers who were in the same situation.
Phase 1: The foundation
Server, auth, billing infrastructure. The bones of what Casa would become. First paying users. First feedback.
Phase 2: The full journey
Full buyer journey dashboard, listing extractor, professionals directory, document vault, post-purchase mode. The product is complete enough to help real buyers, end-to-end.
Principles
No commissions. No referral fees. We earn only from subscriptions. Full stop.
Tax rates are updated every budget cycle. We cite primary sources. We say "we don't know" when we don't.
Your property data and financial details are yours. EU servers, never sold, always exportable.
We'll tell you what we think the right call is, while being clear when something needs a professional's judgement.
