I’m Charles. I spent five years thinking about buying a place in Portugal before I finally completed the purchase as a non-resident. I did not move there: the apartment is my holiday home, and I rent it during the summer.
My lawyer was excellent. I was still stressed and anxious because the wider process lived across portals, emails, calculations, documents and deadlines. MyCasa is the calm, organised view I wish I had alongside her advice.
The problem
Buying property in Portugal as a non-resident can take months and involve lawyers, agents, banks, tax authorities, notaries and a long list of documents. Even with excellent professional help, the buyer still has to hold the whole picture together.
Most foreign buyers arrive with one question — “what does this property actually cost?” — and leave having grossly underestimated the answer by 10%.
